Introduction
Demco (BISHOP ELIUD OKIRING FOUNDATION)is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping destitute AIDS/HIV orphans, widows and poor vulnerable children and mothers in Western Kenya. Demco provides food, medicine, clothing and education to over 120 orphans and poor children in four districts of western Kenya. The organization also empowers widows and destitute poor women in the region by funding sustainable income generating projects for women groups changing their lifestyles forever.
RT-DEMCO ( Destitute Mother Child Organization) Was founded by The Late Rt. Rev. Bishop Eliud Okiring and Mrs. Beatrice Okiring of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Katakwa. The two have been in the priesthood ministry for 17years and 16 years as Bishop of Katakwa. During their ministry, they met extreme situations of poverty, AIDS/HIV orphans and widows and people living in intolerable conditions in all the 218 churches that were under their office. With compassion burning in their hearts, they started to adapt orphans form these churches and supported many through out the parishes. Upon retirement, the faces of these destitute tormented the Bishop as he left office; it was then that he established DESTITUTE MOTHER CHILD ORGANIZATION to give the destitute special attention in regard to their spiritual, economic and social welfare.
Mrs. Beatrice Okiring is now the Chairman and founder of RT-DEMCO which has its office in Amagoro, Teso District Kenya and operates under the guidelines of Non-Governmental Organisations Board No: OP.218/051/2008/0253/5353
The objectives of the organization are:
1. Support orphans in the community
2. Empower mothers/ widows who have destitute children in their community
3. Fight for women and children rights in society
4. Promote moral perspective livelihood to the less fortunate so as to prevent the spread of AIDS/HIV
5. Creating intellectual wealth in the community by educating the poor yet bright kids to college level.
SUCCESSES
1. 2008 Offered psychosocial support to the post election violence IDPS
2. Supported 120 families with agricultural farm inputs
3. 2010 Recruited 20 students to join secondary schools and maintained 50 in primary schools
4. 2011 Recruited 20 students to secondary schools
5. 2012 Recruited 15 to secondary school and 30 to primary schools
6. 2012 Recruited 5 students with special needs to primary schools
